Our centre

The World Archery Excellence Centre is located 15 minutes away from the middle of Lausanne.

Partnerships with hotels and restaurants in the area and the City of Lausanne will make the Centre easy to visit and desirable to stay at.

Local public transport routes such as the M2 metro line and bus numbers 45, 62 and 64 end nearby the Centre.

Services

Envisaged as a hub for Olympic, elite and recreational archery worldwide, the World Archery Excellence Centre will host training camps, individual athletes, judging and coaching seminars, and become the primary venue for World Archery’s development initiatives.

It will also be a multi-sport venue offering activities to the communities of Lausanne and the Canton of Vaud.

The 6,200m2 site includes the following facilities:

  • Huge 70/18m indoor range/activity hall
  • Athlete lounge and cafeteria
  • Office spaces
  • Gym, changing rooms
  • Sports medicine facilities
  • Conference and meeting spaces
  • 90m outdoor field

All facilities at the World Archery Excellence Centre are available for bookings by private individuals and organisations. Rates are offered on application.

Juan Carlos HOLGADO

Centre Director

Juan Carlos Holgado is a four-time Olympian (athlete in 1988 and 1992, coach in 1996 and 2000), who became an Olympic team gold medallist in Barcelona 1992. 

He holds a Master of Management and Administration of Sport and a License in Physical Education and Sports. He has been officially involved in World Archery since 2004, when he served as Technical Operations Manager at Athens 2004 Olympic Games, a position he repeated in Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016.

Appointed as World Archery Events Director in 2005, Juan Carlos has over a decade of experience on managing international events, developing archery projects and running seminars that have helped to develop and grow archery around the world.

David WEBER

Administrative and Financial Assistant

David Weber is the assistant to the WAEC Director and provides administrative, financial and reception support for the Centre.

David Weber is a native Swiss retail specialist with over 20 years of experience leading large projects. Developed management skills through working in sales, marketing, buying, finance, human resources, construction and merchandising departments.

Previously worked as a Centre Manager at Outlet Aubonne (Inter Ikea Centre), District Manager at C&A and Regional Sales Manager at Office World SA. Experienced in project management, retail merchandising, people management skills.

Co-founder of the “Let’s Act” Event to help refugees, speaker at a communication school in Lausanne and substitute teacher. David speaks fluently German, French and English.

Kyeongsu

Key Responsibilities:

- Managing and planning archery trainings and activities
- Organization of archery field and equipment
- Development of archery content and tips for trainings

Kyeong Su JEOUNG

Head Coach

Kyeong Su Jeoung is the Head Coach of the WAEC in charge of managing and planning all archery trainings and activities. Key role is the development of content for archery trainings as well as directing teams of archery coaches.

Originally from South Korea, Kyeong Su arrived in Switzerland November 2016 to be the Centre’s Head Coach.

Kyeong Su started archery in 1999 and quickly rose to Cadet and became part of Team Korea’s Youth National Team in 2005 and Junior National Team in 2006. Additional honours include Team Silver at the Youth World Championships in Merida in 2006.

From athlete to coach, Kyeong Su soon became the coach of the Sri Lanka Archery National Team, the Yanwha Middle School (Seoul), the Korean Boy team of Seoul International Archery Youth FESTA from 2010 to 2015.

Kyeong Su graduated from the Korean National Sport University in Physical Education. He was a participant of the Asian Archery Coaching Seminar in 2016 and is a Coach trainer level 1 candidate.

Thierry SPRUNGER

Sales and Business Adviser

Thierry Sprunger is a key figure in driving the Centre’s business development and sales. Thierry overseas all the finance and accounting matters as well as event logistics and delivery.

Thierry Sprunger, Swiss native, South African raised. After 10 years as an auditor with Price Waterhouse, he spent seventeen years with the International Olympic Committee, primarily as the Chief Financial Officer.

He has since worked for a number of International Sports federations as a financial consultant, in particular, for developing countries.

Fermin

Key Responsibilities:

- Maintenance of the building
- Maintains and builds relationships with current and future suppliers
- Liaisons directly with construction and IT partners
- Equipment maintenance at the Centre
- Reception duties

Fermin SUL

Maintenance Coordinator

Fermin Sul is the maintenance coordinator of the WAEC and oversees the maintenance of the building and its equipment. Key responsibilities include maintaining and building supplier relationships and liaising directly with construction and IT partners. Fermin takes on reception duties as well.

Fermin Sul is a native Guatemalan and has been based in Switzerland since 2007. A former technician in commercial computing, he has worked as responsible for tennis facilities throughout most of his life, gathering experience in maintenance and facility management.

His passion for archery started one year ago, after meeting the World Archery Excellence Centre Director Juan Carlos Holgado. The Centre, said Fermin, is something that garnered his attention for the importance that it brings to the local and international sport communities.

At the end of 2015, Fermin travelled to the Easton Foundations Centre in Salt Lake City, United States, to practise archery and gain more knowledge in maintaining an archery centre.

Christine JENNINGS

Maintenance Coordinator

Christine Jennings is the Development Coordinator and overseas all operations and logistics related to development at the Centre. Responsibilities include Olympic Solidarity projects, AGITOS projects, World Archery Equipment Development programs, archery event operations and WAEC merchandising.

Christine Jennings came to Switzerland from Boulder, Colorado, USA in December of 2015 to participate in the Master of Advanced Studies in Sports Administration at the Académie Internationale des Sciences et Techniques (AISTS) signed by the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. She also graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2009, with a major in Marketing and a double minor in Communications and Retail Merchandising.

A former USA Swimming National Team member competing for over 8 years for Team USA, she participated in 4 World Championships, was a 2-time US National Champion, Pan Pacific Champion and Bronze medallist at the Pan American Games in the 10Km Open Water Marathon Swim. She also swam collegiately at Minnesota, a NCAA Division 1 school and participated in 4 NCAA Championships and was a 5-time Big Ten Champion.

Josephine CHABIN

Web & Communication Coordinator

A native Swiss, Joséphine studied in England to improve her English and graduated in 2015 in Multimedia Communications in England. She is now studying Media Engineering at the HEIG-VD, the School of Engineering and Management in Yverdon-les-Bains.

She has built an experience in the media field, as a web-designer, programmer and media communicator. As a student in Media Engineering, she is passionate about graphic design, programming, communication and music.

Volunteers Coordinator

WAEC Assistant Coach
Supports the WAEC Head Coach in all technical, equipment and coaching matters. They are responsible for the organizational support of and the delivery of archery to all commercial events.

WAEC Events & Sports Coordinator
Works with the Sales & Business Adviser to manage, plan and run all commercial events. Additional duties include the coordination of volunteers and archery instructors as well as the development of the Archery Instructor Formation Program, which includes building a team of instructors.

ray

Ray Paroz

Event Coordinator and Coach

Ray Paroz is a Swiss National originating from Saicourt in the Canton of Bern who grew up in South Africa where he completed his schooling.

He is married and has five children. Previous professional careers have covered Import/Export, Tourism, Insurance brokerage, estate agent, logistics and turn-around consultant.

Ray’s background in sports is quite extensive and has included a large variety of sports. Ray started archery in 2007 where he shot in the barebow division. He has since won the Swiss Championships in this division 10 times. In addition, in 2011, Ray became a Swiss Archery Judge and in 2012 an archery coach for his local club.
Ray joined the World Archery Excellence Centre in August 2017.
