On July 27, the World Archery Excellence Centre was organising the second stage of its Hyundai WAEC Outdoor Challenge; the first stage of the competition had taken place on May 25.

51 archers gathered for the event on this day. While most participants were coming from Swiss or French clubs, the World Archery Excellence Centre also welcomed to the competition Egyptian archers from the recurve national team currently training at the Centre in preparation for the African Games. They were joined as well by the three Olympic Solidarity scholarship archers Mahmoud Abdelwahab from Sudan, Areneo David from Malawi and Marlyse Hourtou from Chad.

Following the qualification round in the morning, the winners of each category were awarded their medals before carrying on the event with a team competition in the afternoon.

Sherif Mohamed, who got the silver medal in the recurve men category in the qualifications, told us about this event he participated to on his first day at the World Archery Excellence Centre with his team: “As part of the Egyptian national team, I came to the World Archery Excellence Centre to prepare for the African Games in Morocco. The competition we participated to following our arrival felt great, everyone was really friendly; it was quite amazing, and I even shot my personal best today.”

Innes Cooke, who won the competition in the recurve junior men division, also told us about the competition: “I have been practicing at the World Archery Excellence Centre and participating to its events since its opening, and I particularly liked the team event in this competition. Now, my objective is the World Archery Youth Championships 2019 that will take place in Madrid, Spain in a few weeks.”

The gold medallists for the qualification round were Youssef Tolba from the Egyptian Archery Federation in the recurve men division, Reem Mansour from the Egyptian Archery Federation in the recurve women category, and Alain Zombori from Swiss club BSC Aquila in the compound men division. The complete results list of the competition is available following this link.
